Performing arts, visual arts, literature, music, film and television, fashion, architecture, and — from March 2026 — design. Endorsed by Arts Council England together with specialist partner bodies for the creative subcategories. Recognition through awards, exhibitions, publications, broadcasts, and critical acclaim is central.
For established leaders with a sustained, internationally recognised track record. Awards, publications, citations, exhibitions, patents, significant funding raised, or other markers of field-level recognition. Qualifying for Talent rather than Promise unlocks a faster route to settlement — 3 years rather than 5.
For earlier-career applicants showing a clear upward trajectory. Evidence of strong potential to become a leader — early-career awards, fellowships, significant contributions, growing influence. Settlement available after 5 years. Most successful Tech Nation applicants under 5 years' senior experience apply under this category.
Named winners of qualifying prizes — including Nobel Prizes, Turing Awards, Fields Medals, Academy Awards, and others listed in Appendix Global Talent — can skip endorsement entirely and apply directly for the visa. Only prizes specifically named on the official list qualify; other awards from the same institutions do not.

You submit your endorsement application through the Home Office portal. The Home Office forwards it to the relevant body for review. Endorsement fee: £561. Processing typically takes 3–8 weeks depending on the body — Tech Nation 3–5 weeks, Arts Council 6–8 weeks, Royal Society peer-review path 4–6 weeks.
The endorsing body notifies the Home Office, who notify you. You'll see whether you've been endorsed under Talent or Promise — which directly affects your ILR timeline (3 vs 5 years). You have 3 months from endorsement to submit your visa application.
Apply for the visa itself online. Application fee: £205. Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035/year per person, paid upfront for full visa duration). You choose 1–5 years of leave. Dependants apply separately at £766 each plus their own IHS.
Attend a biometric appointment at a visa application centre (outside UK) or UKVCAS centre (inside UK). Decision typically arrives within 3 weeks (outside UK) or 8 weeks (inside UK). Once approved, you can travel to the UK and begin work immediately.
After 3 years (Talent) or 5 years (Promise), apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. You'll need to show continuous UK residence (no more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period), UK earnings linked to your endorsed field, English at B1 (rising to B2 from March 2027), and pass the Life in the UK test. British citizenship is available 12 months after ILR.
